I’ve been explorer and using more extensively A.I. for over a year now and I have things to say. First off, it’s changing daily. The things we can now accomplish today are so different than the ones I could do a year ago. That’s to say how difficult it is to stay on top of what is what. As a creative, I do to find it to be a double edged sword. Of course, creative work and planning a creation requires time, reflexion and intention. There are thousands of “opportunists” creator using these tools as a simple way to make money but seem to under value the potential. Serious creative seem to laugh at it somehow, with good reasons, but still aren’t fully aware of the good use that could come out of it.
The tool I’ve built in my computer is still pretty simple, but to me, is so powerful. The fact that I can generate mostly anything without any connection to internet is quite a feat to me. You said what? No internet? That’s right. With some large models and a decent computer, you can generate anything, infinitely. Now put into the mix some other A.I., some to upscale, some implemented into regular software suites like Photoshop and Lightroom, and you’ve got some serious power at your fingertips.
What I like the most about it is, time. As a fairly new dad, free time is… let’s say it: non existent. The fact that I can harness all of my knowledge from my previous experiences and put them into words and generate visuals is like a real gift. What’s changed is the process, that’s now shrunk by over 1000. I was able to learn and create some images with one hand on my cell phone whilst rocking my second child to sleep at night. Pretty nice!
I will always prefer to setup a shoot and get some real people together and involve the creative chemistry of humans, but, I cannot think of how many times shoots didn’t happen for some reasons. From location not available anymore, by model isn’t feeling well to we decided to change the plan with this… I cannot express how much this can be hard on a creative person. The most successful photographers I’ve seen are well surrounded and don’t work alone. That’s years of building relationships and also for those lucky who completed school and had some established friendship. Starting this on your own is quite a different task. Not complaining here, actually really like to reflect on my journey and see how some turns could have been made to make my life easier, but still I believe structure helps a ton.
As I write this today, I can tell you that wha’t new today is Sora from OpenAI. *(https://openai.com/sora)
This will bring text to video to a new level and if you want to go and have a look, it’s quite amazing already.
I’ll keep on exploring A.I. and will mix it more and more with my creative brain and my other skills. I think it is only a new way to create and you can use it at different intensity. As long as you understand what you’re doing.
On that, here’s a portrait from #268 of my Daily Collection.
